AGC-NM honors ‘best buildings’ of 2011

The Associated General Contractors-New Mexico Building Branch celebrated its 23rd annual Best Buildings Awards on Friday evening at the Sandia Resort and Casino. The annual event honors excellence in commercial construction throughout New Mexico.
Top honors, or the Grand Prize of Show for Best Buildings 2012, went to McCarthy Building Cos.

and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center for the construction and project management of Rio Rancho’s first full-service hospital, which opened in October. McCarthy was cited for exemplifying the “highest levels of commitment, quality and creativity throughout the construction process.”
In addition to the Best Buildings Awards, AGC bestowed its prestigious S.I.R. Award on the following for exhibiting skill, integrity and responsibility: Maria Guy, vice president, J.B. Henderson Construction Co. Inc. and a past president (and first female president) of AGC-NM; Shad James, executive vice president, Jaynes Corp.

and immediate past president, AGC-NM; and Tony Thomas, president, Summit Construction, also a past president of AGC-NM’s board of directors. The S.I.R. award was first presented by AGC of America in 1976 to President Gerald Ford for his leadership in matters affecting construction. Since then AGC and its chapters have presented S.I.R. awards to highlight distinguished service in the construction profession.
“AGC-NM Building Branch is proud to honor our members for excellence in their construction projects as well as for outstanding individual achievements,” said AGC CEO Vicki Mora. “With the selection of three worthy recipients for the S.I.R. award this year, we thought it was most fitting to include the presentation of this high honor during our Best Buildings celebration.”

AGC-NM named Jaynes Corp. as its Industry Choice winner of the Outstanding General Contractor of the Year award.

This year’s winners were judged by Kris Callori, Environmental Dynamics; C. Robert Campbell, FAIA; Janey Lacey, Wilson Co. Engineers Architects; Jason Lermuseaux, National Heating Ventilation Co.; Robert H. Mallory, FCSI, Southwest Noise Constrol; and Timmy Sims Jr., Territorial Scaffold. ACE Leadership student judges were Stefan Jackson, Michael Ontiveros, Aldair Aguirre, Tyler Donnelly and Angelica Gonzales.
